Cambrian Youth Choir
The Cambrian Youth Choir is a non-auditioned ensemble for young singers, male and female, from Years 7 to 12. Since its formation in 1969, the Choir has established a well-deserved reputation as an outstanding performance ensemble for young singers living in the Ipswich area. The choir provides unique training, competition and performance opportunities for young singers across all voice types – soprano, alto, tenor and bass.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of its musical directors, the choir has created an impressive record of achievements, including many first prizes at recent Queensland eisteddfodau. The choir also competes in local eisteddfodau, with great success, and performs at concerts and special events in the Ipswich area.
The choir has hosted and performed for the visiting Vienna Boys Choir; hosted and performed as supporting artist for the Australian Girl’s choir tour of Queensland in July 2001; and also for the Welsh choir in 2003.
Since 2004 the choir has produced six outstanding CD recordings and also recorded a series of half-hour programs of choral music for the Australian Broadcasting Commission. The choir has toured widely throughout Queensland and interstate to concert performances and competitions.
Many members of the Youth Choir have continued on to the Senior Choir, and many talented soloists within the choir have gone on to achieve recognition in the arts both in Australia and overseas.
An objective of the Cambrian Choir organisation is for choristers to make singing a lifestyle choice, progressing from the Cambrian Youth Choir through to the Senior Choir.
The choir is available for hire for special events.
